We're joined by Dr Meg Ross, a sports scientist who worked with the Australian Institute of Sport Nutrition team and Australian Catholic Univesity for over a decade, running research studies to prepare athletes for hot Olympic Games. We discuss her PhD work on pre-cooling with ice slushies prior to the 2008 Beijing Games, and more recent work on pre-exercise hyperhydration with sodium and glycerol, and the use of menthol to alter the perception of temperature in the lead-up to the Tokyo Games. We cover the practical aspects, and how these strategies could be implemented by runners, cyclists & triathletes of all levels.
